ANVC (B) asks Garo CEM to resign

From our Correspondent

SHILLONG, August 7: The Anti Corruption Wing of the breakaway faction of the Achik National Volunteer Council (ANVC) today asked the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), Purno K Sangma to resign immediately, for what it called “practicing corruption in office” and for his failure to improve the functioning of the district council.

“You are hereby asked to resign immediately from your chair, failing which would force us to take a strong stand against you. Take it as a threat, a diktat or a voice of a concerned citizen,” Nawang Sangma, Chief of Anti Corruption Wing, ANVC (B) said.

In a statement issued here today, the ANVC (B) said that the breakaway outfit had given him ample time to improve the GHADC in checking influx, illegal traders and other illegal and corrupt practices in all areas under it.

“Thanks to you for doing nothing, and taking us for a ride and making us to believe that you would work to improve GHADC,” Sangma said.

Recently, the ANVC (B) had asked the GHADC, CEM to quit over the failure of Sangma to take steps in the interest of the indigenous people.

The ANVC (B) stated that the CEM was busy in “gates/monopolies and campaigning.”

The breakaway faction of the ANVC also alleged that Sangma had taken huge sum as a bribe from various bidders for council gates and monopolies.

“According to the Council norms you were suppose to approve the highest bidders so that the fund flows to the treasury, but you filled your own account and settled for fewer amount, depriving the council. This is stealing,” the outfit stated.

The ANVC (B) also alleged that the decision of the concerned executive members were over ruled and went on to settle for those having political affiliations.

“We understand that you have taken good advantage of your chair and position and earned a lot of money, not for the good of the Council but for personal benefit. This shameful act is inconsiderable as you would further steal the possible sources of the council fund for your own interest,” the outfit alleged.
