SHILLONG, Aug 17: The Dorbar Shnong (traditional body) of the Nongmensong dorbar, a locality in Shillong, has alleged that one of its members was wrongfully confined and threatened by the commandant of 83 battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF), Mawpat on the outskirts of the city on Friday.
According to the complaint addressed to the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills, Sanjay Goyal, a member of the Dorbar R Shanpru who is holding the post of Rangbah Dong Umkdait was called by the commandant to his office in connection with the fencing activities carried out by the BSF.
“On arriving in the commandant’s office chamber, he was wrongfully confined and scolded, abused by him continuously from 9:30 am to 11:00 am. The commandant also threatened Shanpru that they would shoot him if any objection is made against the BSF fencing,” stated the letter to the Deputy Commissioner.
The Dorbar alleged that the BSF, Mawpat, while carrying out its boundary fencing, encroached upon the public land which is a public road for which the Dorbar took up the matter immediately with the concerned authorities.
Recently, officers from the Survey Department and District Administration along with the BSF officials including members of the Dorbar visited the site and measurement were taken by survey officials and report of which are still awaited.
The work has been kept under suspension till final decision is arrived between all the parties concerned.
