SHILLONG, Jan 10: The sensational sexual assault case of a minor, which is being investigated by the Shillong city police, has led to further arrest and revelations today. After the arrest of absconding MLA Julius Dorphang on last Friday in Guwahati for his alleged involvement in the case, the Police today arrested a 66-year-old man identified as Kentli Tangsang from Wahkdait village. With the arrest of this man, police have so far arrested nine people in connection with the sexual exploitation case.
Another case is registered with Ri-Bhoi district but the other name of the guest house which was allegedly used for similar misadventure in Shillong is Lumsohsohphoh Guest House owned by D.M Lyngwa.
This is apart from the Marvelene Inn, owned by State Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh’s son, Nathneil Rymmai.
Superintendent of Police (City) Vivek Syiem on Tuesday said that more arrest will be made in the coming few days.
Police said arrested MLA Dorphang has cooperated with the investigating team in spite of initial denial of being involved.
The owners of the two Shillong based guest houses-Marveline Inn and Lumsohpoh Guest House continued to feign ignorance about the type of activities happening inside their own domain.
The CCTV of Marvelene Inn was not functioning since November 28 at Maveline Guest House and Lumsohphoh Guest House does not have CCTV provisions.
Amidst the investigation carried out by the Police based on the First Information Report (FIR) filed by the victim on the third week of December last year and the subsequent suo motto case registered by the Chairperson of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, the militant leader-turned politician, was in Laitumkhrah Police station for the second day today before he was shifted to Sadar Police station for a normal stay.
Dorphang’s police remand will end on Wednesday, but sources said that the investigating team will seek his custody for further interrogation.
