SHILLONG, Jan 10: The alignment for the 80 km improvement of NH-40 between Shillong and Dawki and construction of the Dawki bridge have been approved by the National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL). The alignment for the project was approved on December 16 last year and now the final Detailed Project Report would be prepared for the project by January 31 this year. The final feasibility report on the 80 km improvement of NH-40 between Shillong and Dawki and construction of the Dawki bridge has also been submitted to the National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL). The improvement of NH-40 and the Dawki bridge will be implemented by M/s Transys Consulting Pvt. Ltd at an estimated cost of Rs 200 crore to be funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency. The proposed road is expected to improve trade and commerce with Bangladesh through Dawki, besides it will also make travelling to Dawki and Bangladesh hassle-free. At present, the Guwahati-Shillong-Dhaka bus plies on the road besides Dawki and nearby areas like Mawlynnong, which is situated nearby, is frequented by hundreds of tourists every day.
