New Delhi/Jammu, May 23: An Indian Army officer was killed and another injured on Wednesday when their helicopter crashed on the Siachen glacier, the world’s highest battlefield, the military said. The officer-pilots were flying a Cheetah chopper to the Siachen base camp after delivering supplies at the Bhim helipad when they lost control of the flying machine, the army headquarters said. The helicopter crashed 400 metres away from the helipad soon after take off. Siachen glacier is located on the India-Pakistan border. “The pilot was killed and the co-pilot was badly injured,” the officer said. He identified the deceased pilot as Major Chandrasekar Singh and the injured as Major Amit Mohindra. “A court of inquiry has been ordered,” Indian Army spokesperson Colonel Jagdeep Dahiya said. “The reasons for the crash will be ascertained by the probe.” Bhim post is about 6,000 metres in altitude and is in the northern glacier area.
