DAN can only solve Naga political problem: BJP

From our Correspondent

DIMAPUR, Feb 2: The BJP today said that only the Democratic Alliance Nagaland (DAN) can bring about an honourable and acceptable solution to the protracted Naga political problem.

Speaking at the BJP party ticket distribution ceremony held here at Book Marc conference hall, on Friday afternoon, senior BJP official and in–charge of Nagaland, PB Acharya, said that the BJP under the visionary leadership of former Prime Minister AB Vajpayee had accorded special status to Nagaland and recognized the “unique” political situation of the Nagas.

Reminding of the then BJP–led NDA government’s largess to Nagaland when the State was facing financial problems, Acharya said that in the long run, despite being branded as a communal party by other political parties, the saffron party has proved to be more understanding to the problems faced by Naga people.

The BJP leader said that even in the Centre, only a coalition government in the likes of BJP– led NDA government in the Centre can bring about permanent settlement to the Indo–Naga political issue.

Acharya said that since Vajpayee’s historic visit to Nagaland, the party has been marching forward in the State and appealed the voters to work for the success of DAN coalition government comprising of NPF, BJP and JD (U) in the ensuing election for ushering in more development in the State.

Acharya also launched a scathing attack on the Congress party describing it as “number one corrupt political party in the country” responsible for social and economic divide.

“Banish Congress party from Nagaland politically”, Acharya said while alleging that the party had ruined the country through its dynastic system of governance.

National BJP general secretary and former MP from Arunachal Pradesh, Tapir Gao has also exhorted the members.

Altogether 11 candidates were issued party tickets during the ceremony. The candidates are Lachit Khersa for 3 Dimapur–II A/C, Imsu Yaden for 21 Tuli A/C, TA Ngullie for 37 Tyi A/C, Er Senkathung Jami for 39 Sanis A/C, P Paiwang Konyak for 41 Tizit A/C, Leiyang Konyak for 44 Phomching A/C, MM Thromwa Konyak for 45 Tehok A/C, C Manpon Konyak for 47 Aboi A/C, Rakhila Lakhiumong for 54 Tuensang Sadar–II A/C, Linko Sangtam for 59 Siyochung–Sitimi A/C, and JM Makhi for 60 Pungro–Kiphire A/C.
