The Congress Party is too old to lead!
 

L et us imagine a grand old man of 127 years! This would, indeed, be a rare case to be seen. In a situation like this, we will witness havoc wrought by time on his body and soul. In the first place he will look frail, sick, weak. He also can’t see properly, can’t hear, can’t walk without aid and so on and so forth. This has, exactly been the condition of the Congress party which has completed 127 years of its existence. The position of the congress party is now at the lowest ebb by its own standard. The Congress party can be compared to an institution. If any institution is not being properly nourished by infusing new blood, new thinking and new ideas from time to time then it is bound to get aged and become old like any human being.

 In a rough estimate, the congress party was in power for 55 years out of 65 years since independence. And the congress party was under direct control of the so called Nehru–Gandhi family in most of the years. It would be not wrong to brand it as party for the dynasty, by the dynasty and of the dynasty. This is precisely being so. Now, whether it is party the affairs or governance of the country, everything moves as per the whims and fancies of one dynasty. In the process democracy within the congress party got dented and tainted. In fact, the congressmen as a whole are only responsible for reducing the congress party to one family affair. After the death of Nehru, Lal Bahadur Shastri as a gesture of good will, requested Indira Gandhi to join his cabinet. Though, initially, she declined, later on she made up her mind to join the cabinet. Her, onward march continued till she was assassinated, with some small break here and there. After the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi, congressmen put all pressure on Ms. Sonia to come to politics. Initially she also resisted but finally she made her mark in congress. I don’t know what quality Congressmen had seen in her to pressurise Sonia to come to active politics. Or was it a sheer display of sympathy? Ours is a wonderful land! Everything is possible in this country.

In 2004, congressmen wanted Ms.Sonia Gandhi to be the Prime Minister in UPA–I. However, she herself opted out to become the Prime Minister. Now, everybody knows that, she is running the show from behind the scene. Now Mr. Rahul Gandhi has been brought in officially as the second man of the party. In fact, there is nothing to cheer about it. They are there and shall remain to be there so long the party remains surrounded by sycophants, self–serving and corrupt congressmen. There is a possibility of Rahul playing the same role like his mother if the Congress happens to come to power in 2014! I feel ashamed when I see politicians/cabinet ministers of higher calibre stooping so low to praise Mr. Rahul overwhelmingly, after his coronation to the throne officially. I don’t know, what prompted them to praise so much? Did Rahul ever deliberate or focus on issues of national importance like poverty, price rise, economic scenario, terrorism, corruption in high places, Naxal problem, J & K problem, Delhi gang rape, LOC violation etc? Does he have any answer on police reform, election reform, administrative reform, etc? In which field has he excelled? Can anybody cite an example? At least we did not find him focus or deliberate on any important issues that plagued the nation, inside and outside the parliament. What is his road map to take the country forward? What are his vision and mission? A leader has to lead from the front. Running a big country like ours is not a child’s play! One has to show results in action to get praised and appreciation. He also could not show any charismatic fervour among the voters to win elections in Bihar, UP, Punjab and in Gujarat. Also take the case of youth congress. As we have witnessed in Assam and elsewhere, it is riddle with chaos, indiscipline and corruption. Even he could not infuse minimum discipline among the rank and file of the youth Congress. Despite the fact, congressmen are trampling all norms of civility to praise Rahul so as to remain in the good books of the dynasty, keeping their personal agenda in the fore front. By doing so they are demeaning and putting themselves in bad light as well. It was also seen that the politicians were vying with each other to praise Rahul. If, those are, not shameless acts of sycophancy, then what is? All arguments in favour of Rahul will fall flat in the eyes of neutral and just people. There are many seasoned, knowledgeable, highly qualified and talented people within the congress party. But they are being sidelined. The act of sidelining the talented congressmen within the party was being practiced since the days of Indira Gandhi. Umpteen number of people had to leave the party and formed new parties during the “Indira–Sonia” era, since they raised voices of dissent. In the process congress party has lost many honest and committed leaders. Realising the facts, the present group of politicians adopted the culture, either to lie low or show over loyalty to the so called Nehru–Gandhi family. By doing so, however, they are selling their own conscience and self respect apart from doing immense harm to the nation.     

It is totally wrong to put the blame on the dynasty alone. The congressmen and the people of the country are more responsible for putting them in the helm of affairs. An image has been created in such a way that the “Nehru– Gandhi family” and the congress party are the two sides of the same coin. To select a leader from the “Nehru–Gandhi family” has become the natural choice of the congress. The situation has come to such a pass that they can’t think beyond the “Nehru–Gandhi” family. This mindset and culture of the congressmen will, one day bring doom to the party. Sonia and Rahul have wielded enough power. They have become like man eaters. They have got the real taste of power. Anybody would behave in the same manner in such circumstances. Absolute powers have made them absolutely crazy to remain in power for all time to come. Ms. Sonia called that power is “poison” in her message to Rahul after his official coronation in the Jaipur conclave. By saying so, Ms. Sonia tries to blackmail the people of the country emotionally. However, there is no let up in their efforts to remain in power. Just to remain in power, a lot of short cuts and populist methods/schemes have been introduced, without engaging monitoring tools to ensure its proper implementation, to woo the poor voters at the cost of public money. Short cut methods of the Congress could not alleviate the conditions of the poor; rather their conditions are deteriorating day by day, since benefits are not percolating to them. This has resulted in huge corruption encompassing the whole country. Corruption in high places has become a non–issue for the present regime. The Corrupts are pampered, cajoled and rewarded. The present chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh is an example. The country is rotting in all fronts under the Congress regime!    

If “new thinking”, “new blood” and “new ideas” are allowed to revolve around one “Nehru–Gandhi” family, then the hope of getting a young and vibrant India will remain a distant dream for the people of the country. No amount of churning within the family can produce any tangible result. Doors and windows need to be kept open for light and sound to percolate! Does Rahul mean business? Is he serious about, what he says?  What ideology does he have in mind to give the country a direction? Or he will bank upon the same old policy like vote bank and pseudo secularism as his predecessors. We have heard enough in the past. Things are to be seen to be believed. As things stand today, the party will age further. The congress party has already become too old to lead the country forward! Therefore the youth of the country must rise to the occasion to get rid from the shackles of the “Nehru–Gandhi” family and save the country from the brink. It is better late, than never!
