Exfoliate Your Lips to Keep Them Supple & Soft

Exfoliate Your Lips to Keep Them Supple & Soft

Unlike our body skin, lips don’t produce oils to protect them against drying and usually get dehydrated during cold, dry and windy weather. Exposure to the sun can also contribute to the flaking of lips. Some other factors of lip chaaping are licking or biting the lips. Dry or rough lips cause discomfort and pain, and also ruin your look. Like our skin, our lips too require regular exfoliation and moisturization to keep them healthy, smooth and luscious. However, the exfoliation needs to be done meticulously & carefully so as to avoid any damage.

You don’t even need to visit a parlour for this. You can do it all yourself. Here are some DIY easy tips to add glamour to your lips.

At Home:
Materials required:
(i) Soft Toothbrush (reserved for this purpose).
If you have sensitive skin, use a children’s toothbrush, else use your fingertips.
(ii) Lip Scrub: You can make your own at home or buy one from market.
Method:
(i) Apply your favorite lip scrub onto your lips or the toothbrush.
(ii) Scrub gently with the toothbrush using small circular motions to exfoliate your lips firmly, but not roughly.
(iii) Apply a rich moisturizing lip balm to help keep your lips plump and healthy.
(iv) Ensure to moisturize your lips after this.
Notes:
(i) Make sure to moisturize your lips after exfoliating them.
(ii) You can choose a scrub containing moisturizing as well as exfoliating agents, and let the scrub absorb into your lips by leaving on for a minute or so. Then use a damp washcloth to wipe your lips.

Natural Tips for Lips
The skin on your lips is delicate, so while exfoliating them keep in mind these important tips:
(a) Be gentle

(c) Don’t over exfoliate
(d) Exfoliate not more than once a week.
(e) Don’t use the toothbrush on dry lips. If you don’t have a scrub, dab your lips with a balm first so you don’t scrub off too much skin and create redness and irritation.
Caution:
(a) Beware of lip products that contain salicylic acid. Though they work to exfoliate lips, but can cause irritation if used too often.
(b) If you do feel irritation from any of your products, stop using it.
Here are three simple, natural DIY lip exfoliant recipes for you to try:
