Uganda celebrates first gold after 40 years

LONDON, Aug 13: People in Uganda celebrated the gold medal won by marathoner Stephen Kiprotich at the 2012 London Olympics. It was Uganda’s first Olympic gold in 40 years since late John Akii Bua won the 400 metres in the 1972 Munich Olympics.

London hands over Olympic flag to Rio

LONDON, Aug 13: The Olympic flag has been handed from London to organizers of the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro.

London Mayor Boris Johnson handed the flag to IOC President Jacques Rogge, who then presented it to Rio Mayor Eduardo Paes.

Mexico has best Olympics in over 40 years
