EASTBOURNE, June 23: Tamira Paszek saved five match points to beat fifth seed Angelique Kerber 5-7, 6-3, 7-5 on Saturday to win the Eastbourne grass-court event and claim her first WTA title since 2010.
Austrian Paszek, ranked 59th, spent two and three-quarter hours in fighting for the third title of her career after starting the week at the Wimbledon tun-up with just two match wins this season.
It was her first title since Quebec in September, 2010.
Number eight Kerber missed out on her third trophy of 2012 after finally finding fitness after a series of injuries this season. The men's title will be contested between wild card Andy Roddick and holder Andreas Seppi of Italy. Agencies |
