By our Sports Reporter GUWAHATI, July 30: City Police will take on Rajbari AC in the inaugural match of the Jibeswar Goswami ‘A’ Division Soccer League which will get under way in the city tomorrow. Altogether eight teams will take part in the ‘A’ Division Soccer League. The other teams who are participating in the meet are Jewel Star, Chandmari SC, Rising XI, Navajyoti Club, NF Railway and Maharana AC. The schedule of first four days of the meet: July 31: City Police vs Rajbari AC, August 1: Jewel Star vs Chandmari SC, August 2: Rising XI vs Navajyoti Club, NFRSC vs Maharana AC, August 3: City Police vs Chandmari. |
By our Sports Reporter GUWAHATI, July 30: Assam will participate in the Buchi Babu Cricket Tournament which will be held in Chennai from August 17. Assam is placed in group ‘C’ along with Kerala, Saurastra and Uttar Pradesh. The side will start its campaign on the inaugural day of the championship against Kerala. Later, they will face Uttar Pradesh (August 20-21) and Saurastra (August 23-24). This time altogether 16 teams will take part in the championship and the champion team will collect a purse of rupees one lakh. It may be mentioned here that besides taking part in the Buchi Babu Cricket Tournament, Assam will also play a few practise matches in Orissa and Tripura in September. |
By our Sports Reporter GUWAHATI, July 30: Assam Swimmers Conscious Parents’ Organization has conveyed a meeting on Sunday to discuss about the present situation of State swimming and to find out its solution. The meeting would be held at the Sarusajai Sports Complex. It may be mentioned here that for a while swimmers are facing huge problems due to squabbling among the organizers and there was even few occasions when State swimmers even failed to take part in the National Swimming Championship. |
By our Sports Reporter GUWAHATI, July 30: Assam won 24 medals in the 3rd National Chinese Martial Arts Championship which was held in Delhi recently. Among the 24 medals- 8 are golds, 10 are silvers and remaining six are bronzes. The gold medal winners in the meet: Nitul Borah (45 kg, senior), Binod Mochahari (60 kg, senior men), Raju Deori (70 kg, senior men), Sufola Ray (30 kg, sub junior, girls), Monika Boro (55 kg, senior women), Kaushal Bey (junior boys, 40 kg), Nitul Borah (senior men, 45 kg), Sunita Boro (senior women, 55 kg). |
By our Sports Reporter GUWAHATI, July 30: Guwahati School XI defeated Ramjas Cricket Academy in an exposure tour match held in Delhi today. Batting first, Ramjas Cricket Academy scored 173 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 40 overs. In reply, Guwahati School XI reached the target losing 8 wickets. Shubham Sharma and Amitabh Mallick scored 42 and 41 runs respectively. Earlier, yesterday Guwahati School XI lost its match against Sonnet Cricket Academy by 50 runs.

By our Sports Reporter GUWAHATI, July 30: Assam footballer Alen Deory has been selected for the prestigious IMG Scholarship. The scholarship is jointly provided by IMG and Reliance Industries Limited and this year altogether 16 footballers in U-15 age group from different parts of the country will receive this scholarship. The secretary of the Assam Football Association Ankur Dutta today said that under the scholarship all 16 footballers will get the chance to attend a special nine months training programme in USA which will start in September. It may be mentioned here that Deory, who is the product of Young Star Football Coaching Centre, Guwahati, recently joined the TATA Football Academy. |
