By our Staff Reporter JORHAT, June 23: A secret deal hatched by some office-bearers of Axam Xahitya Xabha to give away on lease some portion of the land of the compound of the central office of the Xabha at Jorhat to some businessman has come to light. Ramen Saikia, former secretary of Jorhat Zilla Xahitya Xabha, recently, staged a protest programme against this conspiracy. He alleged that preparations were made secretly for giving away the land, on lease, to a businessman for twenty years. He said that about one hundred years ago, the Chandrakanta Indrakanta Trust while donating the plot of land to Axam Xahitya Xabha in Jorhat town had clearly set the condition that the land could not be used for any purpose other than that of Xahitya Xabha. It is not clear on what consideration the Xabha office-bearers wanted to lease out the campus of the prestigious organization. They are keeping mum on the question.
