JAGIROAD, July 8: Following protests against the controversial agreement between Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) and the M/S Hills trade agency of Guwahati, for supply of bamboo from Karbi Anglong to the Nagaon paper mill (NPM) of Hindustan Paper Corporation (HPC) here, the KAAC has cancelled the agreement and made way for the NPM for procuring bamboo directly.
It is learnt that the HPC had signed an agreement with the KAAC for supply of bamboo in 2011. Following this agreement, the agency signed a fresh agreement with the KAAC for supply of bamboo. But the employees of the NPM, AASU, Unnati Sabha, Womens’ Unions staged protests against this and demanded cancellation of the agreement. |
