'It's riot between indigenous people and migrant Muslims'

From our Correspondent

KOKRAJHAR, July 31: Women Right activist Anjali Daimary, who is the president of Bodo Women Justice Forum (BWJF), termed the present riots as clash between indigenous people and Muslim immigrants. She said that the organizations both political and non-political gave different image of the conflict which is unfortunate.

“It is not Bodo-Muslim riots rather it is indigenous people and illegal Muslim immigrants. The violence happened because of the migrant Bangladeshis and the indigenous Muslims were the mere scapegoat”, she said. Terming the violence as pre-planned, she said ‘why such riots do take place where there are indigenous people. Who instigate such clashes? The government always tried the policy of ‘divide and rule’.

On the claim of AIUDF, she said the total voters in Kokrajhar is 9,57,064 and the total Muslim voters is 1,84,441. Where is six lakh population as claimed by Ajmal. If the claim by Ajmal is true from where these six lakh population came, she asked. Six lakh might be in Dhubri, she said.

Daimary also urged the Assamese intellectuals to realize the truth. ‘It is the right time to realize how to survive in own land with dignity. All the Assamese people must realize this or Assam will be finished at the hands of these illegal migrants, she said.

BPF MLA Rihon Daimari asked the AIUDF president Badruddin Ajmal to prove his allegation in which he had said that all the eleven MLA’s of BPF were involved in the recent riots in Kokrajhar, Chirang and Dhubri districts.

“A responsible parliamentarian like Ajmal should not have made such irresponsible communal remarks in such a critical period and we condemn such derogatory comments and ask him to prove our involvement,” Daimari said. Daimari said that Ajmal has made a very sensitive allegation which might help to fuel the tension in the region. He also opined that there is no difference in getting rights under the provision of BTC accord and Constitution of India in the BTC region among the Bodos and non-Bodos. “We are all enjoying our rights equally here including the non-Bodos and Ajmal should realize it.” she added.
