DIBRUGARH, Jan 7: The twelfth Prantiya Adhivesan Udaan of Purvottar Pradeshiya Marwari Yuva Manch (PPMYM) concluded at Old Government Boys High School here on Sunday.On the concluding day, a colourful procession was taken out during which the need for the conservation of rhinoceros was highlighted. The Chetna Satra held in the afternoon was attended by the former Presidents of Axom Xahitya Xabha, Dr Nagen Saikia and Homen Borgohain, Vice-Chancellor of Dibrugarh University, Dr KK Deka, writer, Devi Prasad Bagrodia and AASU advisor, Dr Samujjal Bhattacharjee. Dr Nirmal Sahewalla chaired the session.
In his address, Borgohain talked about the contribution of Marwaris in the development of the Northeast. He acknowledged the social welfare activities of Marwari Yuva Manch and was critical over the exclusive attitude of the Assamese people who always kept the community at arms length despite their latter’s constant effort to identify themselves with the state. The former AXX President saw the need of the Marwaris to think beyond themselves and contribute towards the upliftment of the less developed communities. Nagen Saikia called the Marwaris a part of Assamese society and saw the necessity for them to overcome the language barrier. Bhattacharjee sought the cooperation of the Marwari Yuva Manch towards tackling the problem of illegal migration. The President of Marwari Yuva Manch, Sanjib Goel, was also present and addressed the gathering.
The new office bearers of PPMYM also took the oath of office. Prafulla Mahanta of AGP was also present in the closing ceremony held in the evening. |
