TINSUKIA, Jan 10: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal presented the Asom Natya Sanmilan Lifetime Achievement Award, 2017 to celebrated stage artiste Arati Baruah of Guwahati on Tuesday on the concluding day of the five-day 55th Asom Natya Sanmilan held at Khetrodhar Borgohain Natyakhetra, Bordoloi Nagar field in Tinsukia.
In his brief speech, Sonowal also announced institution of a State award in honour of Braja Nath Sarma from next year. The Dr Tarani Kanta Roy Award for Excellence in Stage Direction and Allied Arts was conferred to Prof Tripurari Sarma, NSD New Delhi, the Brajanath Sarma Award for Excellence in Direction, Writing and Theatrical Production was conferred to Rafiqul Hussain of Bokakhat and the prestigious Mahendra Barthakur Award for Excellence in Acting on Stage and Film was conferred to acclaimed stage and cine actor Adil Hussain.
The five-day State-wide programme that began on Thursday drew theatre lovers in thousands from across the district who witnessed a gala of events like children’s theatre held for the first time, mono-acting, mine, workshop, seminar and exhibition. The two plays Taj Mahal Ka Tender and Ghasiram Kotowal performed by the artistes of Repertory Group of National School of Drama drew much applause and appreciation from the audience. During the five-day festival, as many as 17 plays were staged by groups from Sibsagar, Tezpur, Tihu, Guwahati, Patna, Nowgoan, Dhekiajuli, Dibrugarh, Sutradhar Maitong, Bihpuria and Nalbari.
The event was held under the aegis of Asom Natya Sanmilan central committee, Asom Natya Sanmilan, Tinsukia Zila committee and Tinsukia branch committee.
