Year-long silver jubilee celebration of Sibsagar Press Club begins

Dibrugarh, Jan 11: The year-long silver jubilee celebration of Sibsagar Press Club (SPC) was formally inaugurated on Wednesday by the Vice-Chancellor of Dibrugarh University (DU), Dr. Alak Kumar Buragohain, in presence of the chief guest, eminent journalist I.Ahmed, and  president of Sibsagar Press Club, Dr Shomorjyoti Mahanta

Addressing the inaugural event, the Vice-Chancellor of DU, Dr. Buragohain talked at length about the need to upgrade the value system so that moral ethics and principles could be restored among the youths. To develop the same, Dr Buragohain said the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) should be introduced in all the colleges under DU. He further said demographic dividends might show the way to demographic disastrous and so steps must be taken to explore and harness the latent talents among the youths. Dr Buragohain, in a fervent appeal, called upon the professors, lecturers and educationists to reach out for such hidden talents among the youths to facilitate overall development of society and nation as a whole.

Later, in the meeting presided over by president of SPC, Dr Shomor Jyoti Mahanta,  the chief guest of the  occasion, I.  Ahmed accentuated the importance of upholding the tenets of journalism through proper promotion of knowledge. Ahmed even stated that a member of the press must work towards the advancement of the society, including its culture and heritage.

The meeting was also attended amongst others by Sibsagar Development Commissioner Abhijit Boruah, ONGC Officials, Sonaram Mili and Kashyap Jyotipora , Xattradhikar and renowned citizen of Sibsagar, Lakhikanta Mahanta, vice-president of SPC, Sabyasachi Mahanta, general secretary Inamul Hazarika and assistant general secretary Dr Utpal Dutta.

Earlier, the general secretary of SPC, Inamul Hazarika welcomed the guests and others, while vice-president of SPC, Sabyasachi Mahanta gave a detailed account of the 25-year long feature programme activities of Sibsagar Press Club.

The meeting later concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by the assistant general secretary of SPC, Dr Utpal Dutta.
