GAURISAGAR, April 20: The activists of AASU Teok Regional Unit and Simaluguri Mouza Regional Unit under Jorhat district on Wednesday locked the temporary camp of the four-laning construction company at Teok Kaliapani for an indefinite time demanding the repair of the deplorable portion of the NH-37 from Jhanji bridge to Kakodunga bridge.
The four-laning construction from Jorhat Ajanta bypass to Jhanji bridge is going on by Spain-based construction company Corson Corviam Construction, SA. AASU alleged that the construction of the road was progressing at a snail’s pace due to utter negligence by the company. Due to the dilapidated condition of the stretch of NH-37, numerous road accidents occur frequently.
On February 24 and April 4, the AASU Teok Regional unit separately submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Road Transport, Highway and Shipping, for seeking their intervention for repair of the deplorable portion of NH-37, but in vain. Following anguish, the AASU activists of both regional units on Wednesday locked the temporary office building of the road construction committee for an indefinite period. In the protest programme, Jitu Neog, president of AASU Jorhat district committee was present. AASU demanded the construction company to stop the work of four-lane construction until the dilapidated portion of NH-37 is repaired.
