GOSSAIGAON, June 23: One 27 year-old youth suspected to be Rava Viper Army (RVA) militant was killed in a police encounter at No 3 Dawaguri village under Gossaigaon Police Station on Friday night.
Souces said that based on a secret information regarding the hideout of RVA in Nayagaon-Dawaguri area, a joint team of army and police raided the hideout and during their operation two ultras who were coming in a motor-cycle started firing at the police. When the police retaliated one militant was killed on the spot and the other one somehow managed to flee away taking the advantage of the darkness.
Police later recovered one 9 mm pistol, two magazines, one 7.65 pistol, six live ammunation, one mobile handset and a black coloured pulsar bike (AS/161 2912) from the deceased militant. Although the police suspected the militant to be RVA cadre, it is yet to be confirmed. |
