MANGALDAI, July 6: One more junior engineer (JE) namely Ramen Deka of Pachim Mangaldai Development Block has been arrested in Darrang for misappropriating government fund meant for rural development. Mangaldai Police earlier on Thursday had arrested four JEs. All the five arrested junior engineers (JE) of Darrang have been remanded to the judicial custody in Mangaldai district jail after their production in the judicial court here today. Mention may be made here that as per the direction of Darrang Deputy Commissioner Sohrab Ali, the Project Director of DRDA, Darrang filed an FIR against the five JEs namely Apurba Kakati, Deba Kumar Das, Fakharuddin Ahmed, Ramen Deka and Sailen Hazarika for misappropriation of government fund meant for rural development.
“I am not going to tolerate the ongoing corrupt practices of misappropriation of government fund allocated under MGNREGS for the all round development and welfare of the rural areas. So after finding the misuse and rampant corruption in works executed under MGNREGS, I have ordered the Project Director of Darrang DRDA to file an FIR initially against four JEs who were meanwhile arrested by the police. I am going to find out more persons involved in corruption who would also be booked soon” said Darrang Deputy Commissioner Sohrab Ali firmly while addressing a hurriedly arranged press meet in his bungalow on Thursday evening.
According to reports, the Deputy Commissioner Sohrab Ali himself has detected that Apurba Kakati misappropriated government money without executing works and submitted false vouchers while Fakharuddin Ahmed has misappropriated an amount of Rs 1,41,817 out of the sanctioned amount of Rs 2 lakh for construction of a platform at Kanaitari of Roumari Gaon Panchayat. On the other hand, Deba Kumar Das and Sailen Hazarika were accused of gross anomalies and corruption in MGNREGS. All sections of citizens and various organizations including Mangaldai Unnayan Parishad, Darrang District Committee of Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad here have appreciated the initiative of the Deputy Commissioner. |
