DHUBRI, July 9: One notice has been served by ULFA to Abu Taher Bepari, MLA, Golakganj constituency and Parliamentary Secretary of Forest Department demanding Rs 50 lakh as extortion money.
This incident has created a huge sensation not only within Dhubri district but also in the entire Assam.While hand Tarun Gogoi,Chief Minister of Assam has been repeatedly harping on ULFA (Paresh Baruah group) becoming weaker, the fact that ULFA demanding extortion money from a ruling Congress MLA has negated Gogoi’s claim.
A case has been registered by Abu Taher Bepari in Golakganj Police Station under Dhubri district bearing case no 371/12 u/s 384/RW/10/13 UA(P). It is learnt that the extortion letter was signed by Dristi Rajkhowa, senior leader of ULFA. Bepari discussed the matter with the senior police officials and then filed the case in Golakganj Police station on July 1.
Bepari,Parliamentary Secretary and MLA of the Golakganj constituency said that he has received the letter only a few days back by post whereas the date mentioned in the letter was February 25. Police investigation is on. |
