TEZPUR, July 9: Though the water level in the inundated areas behind the Jamuguri Gohpur dyke in the Sonitpur district have receded, the difficulties of affected people is getting compounded by the threat of outbreak of epidemic. It might be recalled that in the deluge which struck the area around Sootea in Sonitpur district from June 26 to July 4, Army had mobilized its task forces to evacuate thousands of marooned & stranded people to temporary relief camps and provided medical aid, food and drinking water. The Chairman Operational Group, Lt General Shakti Gurung conducted an aerial survey of the affected area on July 9 to review the extent of damages caused due to the breached dyke and focus on renewed assistance to be rendered in mitigating the threat of epidemic. Synergized efforts of Army and Civil Administration under Operations Group have been undertaken to reach out to the affected people in the hinterland with medical assistance for their livestock as well.
