A peaceful garden in a valley of death

'People of  Kadamtala, Kharija Dolaigaon, Salbari, Vivekananda Colony and Chapaguri villages are living unitedly despite communal violence  in BTAD areas'

From our Correspondent

Bongaigaon, July 29: This is not the first example of communal brotherhood. But, its importance can never be under estimated. This is the story of a few villages located on Bongaigaon – Chirang district border.

Kadamtala, Kharija Dolaigaon, Salbari, Vivekananda Colony, Chapaguri road area along with few other villages is a cosmopolitan area on the border of Chirang and Bongaigaon districts. People of all communities such as Bodo , Muslim, Bengali, Bihari are  living here happily and peacefully despite the ongoing communal violence in the BTAD areas.

Talking to Press, Pranab Basumatary, a resident of the area said that there is not any trace of communal riot or misunderstanding in there area. “Just when we heard that communal riot between two communities started in BTAD and neighbouring areas, we all organized a public meeting here. We know that mostly rumour affects and increases misunderstanding among the people in critical times. In addition, spreading of rumour in this time is very easy. Thus, a trifling incident also may trigger massive communal clash. Hence, in that meeting, we formed a peace committee with the members from all communities and continuously we kept communication among us. Also we never allowed any third party to enter among us with bad motive. Thus we saved our area from this dirty communal riot,” he said.

Jainaluddin Sheikh, another villager of Kadamtola area said, “ All the members of this peace committee along with other respected persons of our area gathered at least once a day so that rumours could not spread. This saved us from rumour and misunderstanding as we got a platform in the name of peace committee to talk with persons of every community freely. We discussed everything there and hence nobody got the chance to spread any rumour and misunderstanding among us,” he said.

Monowara Begum, another resident of this area said that they would never break their unity under any circumstances. “We are living here for generation after generation together, and no third party can break our unity. We appeal to the all people of our country to live together happily,” she added.
