MANGALDAI, Feb 2: Following the campaign of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi in two prominent places in Darrang district three days back, Assam Health & family Welfare and Education Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma taking part in four election rallies has given a new turn to the Congress campaign in the district.
Dr Sarma accompanied by Minister of State Basanta Das and several other Congress leaders took part in four rallies at Aulachowka and at minority dominated area of Dhula in Mangaldai LAC and Sanowa and Patharighat in Sipajhar LAC and came down heavily on the opposition.
“ The AIUDF will require more than 200 years to form the government in the State and the people of State particularly the religious minority community have come to realize the actual character of the AIUDF” said Himanta Biswa Sarma and accused the leaders of the AGP of making false assurances only to betray the people of the State. Going one more step ahead of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, Dr Sarma termed Minister of state Basanta Das as one of the most dynamic Ministers of the State and appealed the people to vote for Congress only to strengthen the hand of Basanta Das to expedite the pace of the development works and welfare projects of the district.
Significantly, the leaders of the opposition parties namely AGP, AIUDF, BJP miserably failed to give momentum to their campaign in the district. Till date, Durga Das Boro and Apurba Bhattacharyya took part in a few election meetings but yet to woo the electorates.
The AIUDF in Darrang district has been divided into many fractions over transaction of money on issue of party nomination. Similarly, the BJP is also lagging behind in their election campaign.
However, BJP State President Sarbananda Sonowal is likely to attend a rally near Mangaldai town tomorrow. |
