Third Kokrajhar district indigenous games festival concludes

KOKRAJHAR, March 20: The 3rd Kokrajhar district indigenous games festival and inter-club tournament on various traditional games held under the aegis of Kokrajhar district committee, Bodoland Indigenous Games Association (BIGA) at Choto Gendrabilw with a two-day programme concluded on Sunday evening. The aim of organizing the traditional game competition was to bring new revolution among the children and youths to preserve and revitalize the traditional games played by rural people since time immemorial.

There were competitions on traditional Khomlainai, Ghila, Daria-Pantha, Dongfang Bukunai and Khikhor. Other traditional games were demonstrated in the two-day programme that could attract the spectators. Participants from various parts of the district took part in the traditional game competitions.

On the first day, the president of the Kokrajhar district BIGA, Prasanta Kr. Brahma hoisted the flag of the association followed by paying tribute to Chanakya Brahma, the founder of BIGA, by his younger brother Bhola Brahma. Later, the Khomlainai competition was inaugurated by the general secretary of BIGA central committee, Guno Shankar Wary while Ghila competition was inaugurated by Subdivisional Sports Officer, Kokrajhar, Motilal Borgoyary. The Khikhor and Dongfang Bukunai competitions were inaugurated by social worker Kundaram Basumatary and gaonbura of Choto Gendrabilw, Satyajit Wary while Daria-Pantha competition was inaugurated by the treasurer of the BIGA, J. Brahma.

The certificate and prizes were given away by Sundarsing Boro, father of footballer Durga Boro, national Kabaddi player and gold medalist, Sabita Basumatary, vice-president of Baokhungri women’s wing BPF, Kalpana Basumatary, president and secretary of Choto Gendrabilw, Sandeswar Basumatary and Chandan Basumatary and gaonbura Satyajit Wary.

Meanwhile, the 9th Bodoland Indigenous Games Festival and inter-district tournament is scheduled to be held from March 27 to March 29 at Gurubhasa in Chirang district. The three-day mega traditional game event will be attended by leaders of different organizations and intellectuals and competitors from various districts of Assam, including the four BTC districts, will take part in the event.
