From a Correspondent BHURAGAON, July 30: A protest rally was taken out by AGP, BJP and AIUDF jointly at Laharighat recently in protest against price hike anomalies in different government departments, government’s failure in tackling flood and erosion problems, etc. At least 500 AGP, BJP and AIUDF workers shouting slogans against the Congress Government started their possession from the Laharighat AIUDF office. Walking through the Nagaon-Bhuragaon PWD Road, the rally reached the office of the Laharighat Revenue Circle. The three party representatives submitted a memorandum addressed to the Governor of Assam through the Circle Officer. Their demands mentioned in the memorandum included prevention of price hike of essential commodities, proper selection of beneficiaries under Mukhya Mantrir Anna Suraksha Yojana, judicial inquiry into the Barpeta police firing, to provide free seeds to the affected farmers, to give free relief to the flood and erosion hit families immediately, etc. Morigaon district AGP general secretary Abdul Jalil, organizing secretary Kamrul Hussain, Laharighat Block, AIUDF district president Azizul Hoque and AIUDF state general secretary (cultural) Anupam Baruah took part in the protest rally. |
