SIVASAGAR, July 29: A meeting between the Jorhat Lok Sabha MP Bijoy Krishna Handique and representatives of twenty two organizations of Sivasagar district failed to avert the proposed ‘nude protest’ called by the twenty two organizations on August 2 next over the ‘Dolopa molestation’ issue. The meeting was held at Sivasagar DC’s conference hall on Sunday evening. All Tai Ahom Students’ Union (ATASU) chief adviser Ashwini Chetia explained the whole incident of Dolopa-molestation and briefed about the agitational programmes undertaken by various organizations after the incident. On the other hand, Sivasagar DC Jatindra Lahkar and Superintendent of Police Akhilesh Kumar Singh briefed about their steps which they had taken so far within their limits.
In the meeting, all the twenty two organizations which includes All Tai Ahom Students’ Union (ATASU), Asom Jatiyabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), Brihattar Asomiya Yuva Mancha (BAYM), Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS), Takam Mising Porin Kaubang (TMPK), Ujani Asom Muslim Kalyan Parishad (UAMKP), Demow Sanmilta Mahila Samiti, etc, were adamant on their demands to punish the guilty army jawan Anil Kumar Upadhyay of 287 Field Regiment, Rs 10 lakh compensation, a government job for the victim and removal of Nitaipukhuri PS IC Pritom Das. When MP Handique denied to give a written assurance to fulfill their demands, the representatives of all the organizations left their respective seats, and gave the government a deadline till the morning of August 2, to bless the victim with justice by fulfilling their demands. The women representatives also expressed their moral support to the proposed ‘nude protest’ on August 2. |
