Bajali BJP unit urges steps for area’s overall development

From a Correspondent

PATHSALA, Jan 11: A press meet was held at Pathsala recently by the BJP Bajali Samiti.  The Bajali Zila BJP appealed to the government to fulfil the long-pending demands of the district, besides ensuring overall development of the area.

In the press meet, Phani Pathak, president of Bajali Zila Samiti BJP, claimed that the district was lagging behind in every aspect since several decades due to successive negligence of the public representatives. He expressed hope that the new State Government would be sympathetic towards the problems raised by the Bajali Zila Samiti BJP for early fulfillment. He also informed that Bajali Zila Samiti covered the three constituencies, namely Patacharkuchi, Bhawanipur and Sarukshetri under its jurisdiction.

Pathak said that they were in touch with the Sarbananda Sonowal-led government and had submitted a memorandum where they had listed their grievances. They demanded setting up of the proposed Bhatadev University at Bajali College, which is a historic and premier institution of the Bajali area.

Bajali subdivision has been running with only one development block, hence Bajali Zila Samiti BJP demanded sitting up another development block at Jalikata. People of the area have been consistently demanding it since 1990. The Samiti also appealed for opening an office of Superintendent of Handloom and Textile in Bajali. Phatak expressed satisfaction over the response of the minister concerned in this regard. He further demanded upgradation of Bajali subdivision into a district as the party had promised to do so prior to the election. Phatak expressed satisfaction over the response of the minister concerned in this regard. He further demanded upgradation of Bajali subdivision into a district as the party had promised to do so prior to the election. He, however, expressed satisfaction over the steps which the government had initiated in recent times in the interest of the area. He mentioned above five core projects in memory of the first martyr of Assam Agitation, Khargeswar Talukdar, at Bhawanipur LAC and another project in memory of Achyut Lahkar, widely considered as the father of mobile theatre in Assam. Besides, he also mentioned several road projects at Sarukshetri LAC.

The press meet was attended by Hem Chandra Haloi, district vice-president of BJP, Nipon Das, and Prasanta Barman, general secretary of the district committee.
