Farmers worried over inundated paddy fields

 From a Correspondent

JORHAT, Aug 12: Following incessant and torrential rain for the past three days in higher altitudes of Nagaland, hundreds of hectares of paddy fields are under water since the past 24 hours in Titabor subdivision under Titabor Revenue Circle. This has caused panic and concern among the farmers, said administrative sources here.
Several paddy fields at Dhekiajuli, Jalukonibari, Bojalkota, Hodial, Mordholi, Majgaon, Jonaki and Borsoikota have been submerged due to heavy rain, following which big and small river streams flowing down from the hill tops of neigbouring Nagaland have put farmers in the subdivision in a mess, said Bhubam Gohain, a farmer of Majgaon area in Titabor.
Meanwhile, the subdivisional agricultural officials are busy in assessing the cultivated land and taking up alternatives to provide paddy saplings (kothia) of late variety, said Sanjib Hazarika, an agricultural extension worker.
