From a Correspondent

GOLAGHAT (Dhekial), Aug 3: The members of Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP)  Golaghat District Committee staged a protest near the Deputy Commissioner’s office  in Golaghat on Thursday against the construction of the big dam of Lower Subansiri  Hydro-electric Project. The AJYCP carried out a mass rally which was started from the district office through Golaghat town and arrived near the Deputy Commissioner’s office. The activists shouted various slogans against the Narendra Modi government as well as the Sarbananda Sonowal-led Assam Government.

Addressing the gathering, the president in-charge of AJYCP, Dipak Hazarika said that the big dam of Lower Subansiri Hydro Electric Project would completely destroy the culture and society of people who are living in the downstream areas. He also said that people of Assam would be adversely affected by the 2,000-MW Lower Subansiri Hydro-electric Project.

The president and secretary of AJYCP Golaghat committee, Abdul Hasim and Nikunja Medhi said that the Government of India had proposed to construct a big dam which would bring destruction to the char areas of Assam. They said the Northeast was an earthquake-prone area but the government, instead of thinking about the people, was preparing to construct the big dam.

The AJYCP Golaghat district committee condemned the role of the Narendra Modi government and warned that unless the government changed its decision to construct big dam,  AJYCP would launch a massive agitation against the government with help of the people of Assam.
