JORHAT, Aug 12: “As a student you must try to contribute to the world for progress through new ideas and thereafter transform these new ideas to new innovation,” said Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly, Hitendra Nath Goswami while addressing students of various schools of Jorhat during the inauguration of Atal Tinkering Lab sponsored by NITI Aayog, Government of India, which is the first of its kind in the State, to be set up and inaugurated at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Baghchung, Jorhat.
The Speaker said a total of 10 million young students can contribute through new ideas and innovation as the main aim of Atal Tinkering Lab is to foster the spirit of innovation among the young minds by creating a perfect environment in their study centres. The laboratory is supposed to provide new ideas related to science, technology, engineering and mathematics. He lauded the role of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Baghchung (DBHSS) which will give a big boost for enhancement of the academic environment of this premier educational institute of Jorhat.
“With 125 crore population of India, the Government of India cannot provide jobs to all educated young people, so the concept of Skill India has been initiated by the Prime Minister, which has now become very relevant. I also feel in school level we must also try to provide career counselling and hold motivation programmes for young people. In the Jorhat Legislative Assembly area there are 44 high schools and I have decided to provide career guidance and organize motivation programme for the students of Class X in all these 44 schools, including Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Baghchung. A committee under the chairmanship of Inspector Schools of Jorhat has been formed to implement the project for which fund will be provided from the MLA’s Local Area Development Fund,” said Hitendra Nath Goswami.
“The Atal Tinkering Lab here at DBHSS, Baghchung, is the first to be set up and get inaugurated by the Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly. We have added another feather on our cap as through this lab our students and young minds will excel further and for which I am thankful to the NITI Aayog, Government of India,” said Father Regimani, the Principal of DBHSS, Baghchung.
Earlier Father Vergese, the Rector of DBHSS, welcomed the guests. This was followed by cultural programme performed by the students of Class VIII to Class XII. The science and art exhibition was inaugurated within the campus by Rup Jyoti Kurmi, MLA of Mariani as well as alumni of DBHSS, Baghchung.
