GUWAHATI, Oct 12: With the objective to create skilled manpower and to contribute to the skill development initiative of the Central government, Guwahati Refinery has initiated a drive to establish communication links with the institutions/colleges so as to enhance the employability of the local youths.
As a part of the ongoing drive, Guwahati Refinery organised an industry-academia meet at ITA Machkhowa on Thursday to bring awareness among all concerned about the apprenticeship training scheme at Indian Oil Corporation Limited and subsequent employment opportunities. Speaking at the event Guwahati MP Bijoya Chakraborty said that the students must acquire the essential eligibility and skill to be able to compete in the national-level for opportunities in the oil industry. She appreciated Guwahati Refinery for conducting the awareness programme and said that the programme will inspire and enable the students to exploit those opportunities.
Chakraborty further appealed all the students to put a systematic approach towards preparing oneself to crack the national-level competitive exams.
Bhabesh Chandra Goswami, Vice Chancellor, Cotton University said that the students should invest in themselves and make judicious use of technology to keep themselves updated with knowledge and information to compete in the competitive world. While sharing his views, Jogen Barpujari, Executive Director, IOCL Guwahati Refinery, urged the students to keep themselves abreast of the latest developments in the current competitive world and to acquire different skills so as to grab opportunities available in different industries. During the program, a presentation on the apprenticeship training scheme was made by Smita Nath, Manager (ER).
In the presentation, Nath spoke in detail about the apprenticeship training scheme, the eligibility criteria, application procedure, various trades/ disciplines under the training scheme, selection methodology and the future prospects. In the program, students were also advised to download and to utilize the mobile app of Employment News for keeping themselves abreast of the advertisements.
