GUWAHATI, Feb 9: Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) is potent as liquor as well as revenue earner, and this has been proved on the floor of the Assam Assembly.
Replying to a written question from AGP MLA Ramendra Narayan Kalita on Friday, State Excise Minister Parimal Shuklabaidya informed the House on Friday that Guwahati has 489 IMFL shops – 311 IMFL retail off shops and 178 IMFL on shops. According to the minister, while the State exchequer gets Rs 6.62 crore revenue annually form of renewal of licenses of the IMFL off shops, the IMFL on shops yield Rs 4.45 crore annually from renewal of licenses. Apart from renewal of licenses, the State Government, according to the minister, gets Rs 25.50 lakh monthly from 34 IMFL on shops for late closing.
“While the 15 IMFL warehouses located in Guwahati earn revenue amounting to Rs 19 crore monthly, the seven bottling plants in the city yield Rs 50 lakh revenue monthly,” the minister informed the House.  He further told the House that the total revenue collection of the department in fiscal 2016-17 was Rs 966.32 crore and the total collection in the current fiscal till January 2018 was Rs 899.29 crore.
