Mosquito alert sounded

GUWAHATI, Nov 10:  On the sidelines of celebration of the International Science Centre and Science Museum Day on Friday, a mosquito alert and awareness programme was conducted for students by Regional Science Centre, Guwahati.
Scientist and in-charge of ICMR-National Institute of Malaria Research, Government of India, Guwahati Dr Kuldeep Singh presented a science talk on the causes and the effects, prevention and cure of different vector-borne diseases caused by mosquito bites like dengue and malaria. He thoroughly explained as to what kind of mosquitoes spread diseases and how they breed.  Display with live demonstration and analysis about mosquitoes were presented to the students by expert group from National Institute of Malaria Research, Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Along with mosquito alert and awareness, a painting competition for students was also conducted as part of the programme. Over 400 students from various schools in the city participated in the competition held on the occasion of International Science Centre and Science Museum Day. A scientific film show, an open house quiz competition, a science article writing competition and a programme for observation of night sky through with telescope by the students were also part of the celebration.
