Power tariff hike proposal opposed

GUWAHATI, Feb 9: The Assam unit of the North Eastern Small Scale Industries Association (NESSIA) has expressed grave concern over the proposal of the Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd. (APDCL) for hiking power tariff again for all categories of consumers to, what it said, meet additional revenue requirement for the financial years 2017-2018 and 2018-19.
State NESSIA president Sailen Baruah, after submitting an objection petition to Assam Electricity Regulatory Commission ( AERC), at a meeting urged MSME entrepreneurs and as well as domestic consumers to oppose the proposed hike in power tariff by the APDCL. The NESSIA urged it to scrap the proposal, and said that increase in power tariff and fixed charges would sound the death knell for micro sector and small industries having power connection load up to 50 KVA in the State.
