Long way to go: AASU, ethnic bodies

Staff Reporter
GUWAHATI, Jan 3: ‘We have a long way to go’ is what the All Assam Students Union (AASU) and 28 other ethnic organizations of the State told citizens of the State on the NRC update exercise. In a statement issued by AASU and other organizations, they said only the first stage of inclusion of indigenous people of Assam in NRC has been completed. “The people of the State cooperated with the authority right from filling up application forms to the publication of a part draft. However, we’ve a long to go to get an NRC free from the names of Bangladeshis. Till the job is well accomplished, every citizen of Assam has to remain aware,” the statement said. The organizations thanked all those involved in NRC update work and appealed to them to re-double their efforts by taking the duty as their national responsibility so as to publish an error-free NRC. They also made the same appeal to the DCs, SPs and other officials.
