Best performing sports association will receive CM award: Sonowal

GUWAHATI, Nov 10: There must be a healthy competition between various sports association of the state. Those associations, which will be able to produce players to compete at national and international level, would be awarded with chief minister’s award. 
The announcement was made by the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today while interacting with the state and district sports association in a first-of-its-kind programme organised by State Level Advisory Committee on Sports and Youth Welfare, Assam and Directorate of Sports at PWD Convention Centre in the city. 
Notably, today’s interaction programme was held to obtain suggestions for developing sports at grassroots level and to make Guwahati the sports capital of the country where sports association from district to state levels participated.
Saying that the state government is making all efforts to identify sporting talents from the grassroots level and train them up for achieving success at national and international level, Sonowal informed that ‘State Sports Policy’ would soon be tabled at Cabinet to realise the dream of making Guwahati the sports capital of India.
 The chief minister also announced that a sports school would be set at Guwahati for imparting scientific sports training to talented children from a tender age along with academic studies.
Urging the sports association to focus on imparting scientific sports training which has become very important in today’s extremely competitive sporting environment, Sonowal expressed optimism that the government and sports bodies can jointly work to achieve success in producing sports stars who can bring laurels to state at national and international stage. The government would never interfere in the autonomy of the sports bodies’ functioning, the chief minister assured.
