Exhibition football match held

Dibrugarh, Nov 10 : The Exhibition  football match organized by the Dibrugarh District Administration with the help of UNICEF and ABITA that aimed at creating awareness about child rights and protection took place on Friday at the Panitola Sports Club situated near the Panitola Tea Estate of Dibrugarh district. The match that was played between two women teams, namely, ‘Puhor’ and ‘Prerona’, saw the participation of four players from the National Women’s Football Team. While 2017 Arjuna Award Winner as well as the former captain of the Indian National Women’s Football team, Oinam Bembem Devi and former captain of the U-19 National Women’s Football team, Dalima Sibbar played for ‘Puhor’, the opposition team had the likes of the present captain of the Indian National Women’s Football team, N. Bala Devi and mid fielder of the National team, Uwai Devi. In the  contest between  two equally strong teams, Puhor defeated Prerona by 5-2.
Speaking highly of the underlying motive behind the football match, Devi said that such initiatives are quite instrumental in providing the talented young players of the interiors of Assam the much needed exposure. Member of the Assam UNICEF, Tushar Rana highlighted the efforts of UNICEF in bringing the sidelined young population of the state into the mainstream. The event was graced by Dibrugarh MP Rameshwar Teli;  Deputy Commissioner , Loya Madduri; Secretary of Indian Tea Association, Sandeep Ghosh; Additional Deputy Commissioner, Ankur Bharali and several other dignitaries.
