Non inclusion of names displeases prominent persons

From our Correspondent
Silchar, Jan 3: The recently published draft NRC has been received with bitterness by a number of people and organizations. Prominent persons whose names have not featured in the list are unable to digest and digress it. A huge number of people whose names have not appeared in the list are passing days in anxiety, tension and stress. They are unsure whether their names would appear in the next list. The non inclusion of various political, prominent and eminent personalities in the list has added fuel to the fire. A sense of insecurity and uncertainty has gripped them.
This has added to anxieties of the commoners also. It has been decided by Members of Citizens’ Rights Protection Committee (CRPC), Barak Upatyaka Banga Sahitya O Sammelan (BUBSOS) along with various socio cultural organizations, groups and NGOs to launch a series of organized protest rallies, general meetings and demonstrations. They will submit memorandum on the ground reality vis a vis grievances of public to the NRC State Coordinator Prateek Hajela and Deputy Commissioners of the three districts of Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi followed by long drawn agitation including mass protest rally and Barak bandh.
These resolutions have been taken at a public meeting held in the conference room of a community hall on Tuesday. Ataur Rahman Mazarbhuiya said, “Though NRC has been done with accordance with the order of the Supreme Court, but it has been done by the state government only. No fruitful results have come out of it. Government is solely responsible for Hanif Khan’s death”. The speakers took a serious view of the wayward manner in which the first draft has been published. It was resolved that the documents submitted by individuals should be considered for enrolling them in the final draft. A general public meeting to decide and plan further steps will be held on Thursday evening at Banga Bhawan.
