From a Correspondent
DHUBRI, March 8: Nearly 20,000 bicycles under the below poverty line (BPL) scheme will be distributed among the girls students of Class IX and Class X in Dhubri district. In a ceremonial distribution in Dhubri Municipal High School on Thursday, altogether 65 bicycles were distributed among the girl students of the school for 2016-17. Addressing the students prior to distribution of the bicycles, Principal of Dhubri Municipal High School, Mukut Sarma called upon the students not to sell or give the bicycle to others for riding.
“This bicycle is being given to you by the government to encourage you towards education. It is only meant for you to come to school and return comfortably for those whose homes are located far away from the school. Now you have to attend classes regularly,” Sarma added. On receiving the bicycle, Aklima Khatun, a student of Class IX of this school expressed happiness as she used to walk six kilometres from her house in Chalakura sar village and then cross the river by boat and again walk nearly one km to reach school daily.
“When I came to know that government would give us  bicycles, I learnt  how to ride it. So, now I need not walk miles on foot anymore,” Khatun added. Similarly, Manjuna Khatun, Shanaz Khatun, Krishna Das Chania Bin and other students of Class IX and Class X echoed the same feeling and happiness.
