GUWAHATI, Nov 13: South Point School, in association with Heart Care Society of Assam conducted a ‘Heart Care Awareness Programme’ for its students and faculty members at the school premises. Dr. Nirmal Kanti Bhattacharjee renowned cardiologist and President of the Heart Care Society talked on the subject of human heart and its care with an elaborate audiovisual presentation emphasizing the importance of healthy lifestyle and timely intervention for preventing heart disease. This was followed by a lively interactive session with the students and teachers present where Dr. Bikash Rai Das, a noted cardiac surgeon and Secretary of the Guwahati chapter of the Heart Care Society participated. A spot quiz for the students was also conducted generating lot of interest in heart and health care by Dr N K Bhattacharjee.
K. Chanda, the Principal of the school in his welcome address mentioned the constant endeavour of the school to promote the concept of ‘healthy body, healthy mind’ for all round development of the students. Nilambar Buragohain, Vice- President of the Heart Care Society, Guwahati chapter gave a short introductory speech about the Heart Care Society of Assam, a registered non-profit NGO established in 1999 for creating awareness about heart diseases and their prevention and control through people involvement and active participation. The programme was attended by about 200 senior students and faculty members of the school, and members of the Heart care Society. A. N. Das, the President of the Guwahati chapter in his concluding remarks lauded the effort of South Point School to create an environment of health consciousness for the benefit of all, stated a press release.
