SIVASAGAR/LAKHIMPUR, Nov 10: With a view to ensure reasonable fair and justice procedure for all citizens, National Legal Services Day was celebrated on Thursday in Sivasagar. To mark the day, a bicycle rally was organized by District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Sivasagar. The rally was flagged off by the District and Sessions Judge-cum-chairman, DLSA, Sivasagar SK Poddar.
In his speech, Poddar said that it was imperative to make the weaker and marginalized section of people aware about the existence of legal services institution and free legal services meant for them. The secretary, DLSA, Sivasagar, also spoke on the topic ‘Access to justice for all’.
After the rally, an awareness programme was also organized at Banmukh HS School, Sivasagar. In the programme, students were made aware about sexual harassment and shown NALSA documents.
The National Legal Service Day was also observed by the District Legal Service Authority, Lakhimpur on Thursday with day-long programme. On the occasion an awareness rally on poverty alleviation was organized from the Session Judge Court campus. Deputy Commissioner Barun Bhuyan and District Session Judge flagged off the event. Covering a round in the North Lakhimpur town, the rally concluded at Chaporigaon LP School campus located at Ward No 14.
Secretary of the District Legal Service Authority, Narayan Kuri, Assistant Judge Mukul Bhuyan, Inspector of Schools Mridul Kumar Nath, Joint Director of District Health Services Dr Harpal Sing Suri along with various departmental officers, magistrates, advocates, citizens and students participated in the rally. Then an awareness meeting, which was chaired by Deputy Inspector of Schools Kanakeswar Deka, was organized in the school campus leading the agenda in motion.
Narayan Kuri delivered an informative lecture covering the various aspects of legal services provided to the common people free of cost. In addition to him, CDPO Prashanta Borah, CEO of Lakhimpur Zila Parishad, Pradip Doley, DSP Dr Rashmi Rekha Sarmah and DIPRO Sanjib Kumar Baruah also spoke on different governmental schemes meant for wiping out of poverty from the society. Teacher Abdus Samad and social activist Dhan Mahammad highlighted the backward status of the area and the ongoing anti-social activities in the ward.
Taking part in the programme as the chief guest, ADC Debashis Baishya promised to resolve the public complaints which were raised in the meeting. He ensured that the district administration would take special policies to tackle the different issues in the area. The District Legal Service Authority, Lakhimpur has decided to celebrate the event in a most purposive manner for 10 days. Besides the awareness rally and camp, the prominent activities that will be undertaken to observe the occasion are door-to-door campaign, installation of hoardings and declamation on other dates.
