TINSUKIA Feb 9: Taking a pledge in making Tinsukia the cleanest town in India, an NGO ‘Mission Clean Tinsukia Green Tinsukia’ has taken up the cudgel to clean Tinsukia which otherwise nick-named Garbage town even as civic senses are yet to prevail among general masses, the business community in particular.
Mission CTGC, a joint venture of two NGOs- Tinsukia Sports and Cultural Association and Luit Group initiated by Monoranjan Sarma president MCTGC which started Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in 2017 will be completing 365 days on February 12 and planned to observe February 14 with day-long activities. Braving odd and inclement weather, the activists including a sizeable number of ladies have been on cleaning mission in their respective wards without a break even for a single day. Lauding the initiative, the local MLA Sanjay Kishan said the Tinsukia being the commercial hub, belongingness towards this town is remarkably low, defiance to garbage disposal guidelines has become a common practice. “Mindset of the people must change to bring a sanctity in the town, it is the moral responsibility of every citizen to care mother earth,” observed Kishan while urging people of Tinsukia to deliver services in whatever means possible.  Elaborating the day-long programme of February 14 at Swahid Piyali Phukan Maidan, Monoranjan Sarma said, “A painting competition on Swachh Bharat Abhiyan will be held besides felicitation to noted social workers and social organisations. This apart, the day will also witness distribution of food and meals to orphanages, dustbins to schools, study materials and holding awareness meetings on different aspects of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
