Dibrugarh, Feb 9: Acting on certain inputs, the 9th Battalion of the Rajputana Rifles apprehended a person named Mohammad Shamshul Shaikh on February 7 on charges of his connection with ULFA(I). The accused, believed to have been working as a linkman for ULFA(I) was taken into custody while coming out of his friend’s house. Shaikh is a resident of Samuguritai, Namrup. The army, who launched a joint operation for the purpose, apprehended Shaikh from Ballimara. Subsequently, an FIR was lodged against the suspected ULFA(I) linkman at the Joypur Police Station, and he was accordingly handed over to Joypur Police for further interrogation.
