DIGBOI, Nov 13: A 28-year old male wild jumbo was found dead here recently in a small ditch in a paddy field at no 3 Udaipur village in Jagun Forest Range under Digboi Division of Tinsukia district. “The wild jumbos came out of the nearby Kotha Reserve Forest to feed on the green paddy the previous night. The jumbo might have been killed during a fight with other elephants,” said Bipul Bora, the DFO Digboi. However, a team of forest personnel led by Podum Borpatragohain, the Ranger of Jagun, went to the site and carried out the required official formalities, including post-mortem and cremation of the corpse. Meanwhile, ruling out the possibility of man-elephant conflict or poisoning of the elephant, the DFO concerned said that the external injury suggested that it might have resulted out of fighting among the elephants in herds while eating in the field.
