Youth forcefully carry injured cow in 108 ambulance

Tezpur, Oct 11: Sensation prevailed on Tuesday night here at Dhanuanagar area under Tezpur Police Station in Sonitpur district following an awful act by some raucous youth to carry a cow in 108 ambulance forcefully for giving treatment at Tezpur Veterinary Hospital.  According to sources, around 11.30 pm a phone call was received by the 108 ambulance service that a person sustained injuries in an accident that took place at Dhanuanagar area, Tezpur and to help the injured person, driver of the ambulance, Jiten Kalita and medical worker Samir Gogoi reached the spot. But they were shocked to see a cow lying injured on the road.
Now under the regulation of the ambulance service, carrying animals is not allowed in the ambulance but some youth forced the driver and the medical worker to carry the cow to the Tezpur Veterinary Hospital for treatment. But, the veterinary hospital was closed at midnight and the injured cow was brought to Tezpur Kanaklata Civil Hospital. The 108 Ambulance Service Authority has taken up the issue with the Sonitpur district administration.
The 108 Tata Sumo ambulance bearing number AS 01- EC 4437 is used for carrying patients but the youth compelled the driver and medical worker to carry the cow in the ambulance. However, no action has been initiated so far by the police.
