AASU burns effigy of Health Minister

Golaghat (Dhekial), Nov 14:  The activists of Golaghat Regional Students’ Union burnt the effigy of State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at Bezbaruah Point of Golaghat town on Tuesday to protest against alleged anomalies in supplying medicines to government hospitals.
The activists shouted slogans against Himanta Biswa Sarma as well as the health department. They demanded to stop supply of adulterated  medicines to government hospitals and to stop corruption in the health department.  The secretary and president of the organization, Angshuman Baruah and Biswajit Gogoi slammed the Health Minister for allegedly playing with the lives of common people by providing substandard medicines to hospitals. They said that 69,000 Doxylamine Syanide tablets had been sent to Golaghat Swahid Kushal Konwar Civil Hospital in 2015 and 5,400 Norfloxyn tablets  had been sent to the hospital by the Health Department in 2017, which were substandard medicines and could pose health hazard.
AASU activists warned Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma as well as the health department not to play with the lives of common people. They demanded a high-level enquiry into the matter and punishment for the people involved. In the protest, Golaghat AASU executive member Prince Doley, regional committee secretary Monsum Bora, Golaghat AASU adviser Madhurjya Goswami and Mamud Ali took part.
