AJYCP protests illegal felling of trees, stone and sand extraction

From a Correspondent
MARGHERITA, Oct 12: Activists of AJYCP Margherita Regional committee on Wednesday staged a protest at NH- 38 road, Ledo in protest against the rampant illegal felling of precious trees by forest mafia and illegally extracting of sand and stone from rivers under Digboi Forest Division of Tinsukia district. The activists of AJYCP shouted various slogans against Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, State Forest Minister Pramila Rani Brahma,  Margherita MLA Bhaskar Sharma, Digboi MLA Suren Phukan and Digboi Forest Division DFO Bipul Bora for their failure to stop illegal felling of tress, and stone and sand extraction from rivers.
Sanjib Ulup, advisor of AJYCP Tinsukia district committee, Kanchan Bora, joint secretary of AJYCP Tinsukia District Committee, Salil Neog, president and Bimal Singh, general secretary of AJYCP Margherita Regional Committee were present at the protest. Salil Neog and Bimal Singh said that under Digboi Forest Division in places like  Namtok, Saraipung, Lakhipather, Guldubi Chakra Dubi, Namphai, Lalpahar and Pengree, many precious trees were illegally chopped by timber mafia while sand and stones were illegally extracted from rivers by mafia. They alleged that forest officials got huge commission from the forest mafia.
They further alleged that many timber factories of Arunachal Pradesh also purchased illegal timber from the timber mafia which indicated that Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and State Forest Minister Pramila Rani Brahma had no interest to save the precious trees. If this continues then in the coming days, Digboi Forest Division under Tinsukia district will become a region without trees, alleged Kanchan Bora. Salil Neog also slammed Margherita and Digboi MLAs Bhaskar Sharma and Suren Phukan for their inaction in this matter.
“We demand that such illegal activities should be stopped otherwise Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and State Forest Minister Pramila Rani Brahma will have to repent,” said Kanchan Bora.
