LAKHIMPUR, Dec 7: The Lakhimpur district unit of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) expressed strong reaction over the phenomenon of abrupt rising in turbidity level in the waters of the mighty Brahmaputra for the past few days as well as the indifferent behaviour of the ministers of the Union and State governments towards this issue.
The organization considers the development related to the pollution of the river to be a threat to the civilization of the Brahmaputra Valley and the animals living in the river. In such circumstances, the organization burnt the effigies of Keshab Mahanta, State Water Resource Minister, and Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, as they have allegedly showed lackadaisical attitude in finding the cause of the phenomenon.
The organization alleged that State Water Resource Minister had remained inactive over the issue and slammed him while Kiren Rijiju was vehemently condemned for his alleged shallow statement over the issue on Wednesday. District president of the organization, Hiranya Dutta and secretary Niran Baruah demanded Kiren Rijiju to ensure Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention with regard to monitoring the development of the phenomenon. Further, they demanded Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to initiate steps so that the perennial flow of the Brahmaputra could exist forever.
