Tezpur, Dec 7: Allegations have been made against some agents involved in the public distribution system at Mithaam Bongali village of Sirajuli Cooperative under Dhekiajuli LAC in Sonitpur district. Sources said that various allegations had been cropping up from time to time in connection with malpractices in public distribution system in various parts of Sonitpur district and in continuing the prevailing trend, another major allegation had been raised against the agent of the cooperative society for plundering rice and kerosene that were allotted for distribution to the poorer sections of the society at a lower price at Mithaam Bongali village of Sirajuli under Dhekiajuli LAC.
The people of Mithaam Bongali village alleged that the agent was carrying out his business by disobeying the government’s prescribed guidelines for distribution of food stuff to people below poverty line where there was no provision for service holders and pensioners to receive the privileges under the scheme. But, in his list there were 10 beneficiaries who are government employees and food items are distributed against their names. Moreover, there was stricture of the government of selling rice at Rs.3 per kilogram for the BPL card holders but he was selling at his own will at Rs.3.50 per kilogram. Besides, there are some people in the area receiving the privilege of this scheme although they do not have the specific card to claim the benefits. Conscious people of the area have expressed resentment over the alleged malpractice by the agent and had approached the authority concerned and submitted their complaints in writing for proper investigation of the distribution system.
